The Inevitability of a Hangover

I wrote another blog for cliqueclack/flicks, it looks like Warner Brothers is putting the wheels into motion to make The Hangover 3 and I’m not sure it’s the right move for them…

People love a sure thing — and nobody loves it more than Hollywood — hence the countless sequels and remakes that have come out over the last few years and are continuing to be brought to screens around the country. One of the most recent successes stories of these sequels is The Hangover 2, as far as movie makers are concerned, it’s a smash hit, having pulled in $137 million in just five days in the US.

After The Hangover made $467 million — a number the second film is expected to surpass — they were quick get a sequel into the works; how could they not? It was such a smash success that people would surely flock to the theaters, and they were right. Only problem is number two didn’t live up to its predecessor, however it looks like that won’t stop Warner Brothers from starting the process for a third installment of the franchise.

Hold on Warner Bros. — you could be starting a bumpy ride…

Making Appearances Elsewhere

I recently wrote a piece for another website, cliqueclack.com/flicks, on 3D movies, I’d love to see everyone check it out!

One of Hollywood’s favorite things to do right now is put movies out in 3D. Currently in theater there are three of these movies, Kung Fu Panda 2, Thor, and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Over the last five years over 40 movies have been released or re-released as 3D movies and there’s at least ten by my count coming out before the end of summer.

People go to see 3D because it’s new and different; directors and animators like it because they have a new technology to push to the edge; Hollywood likes it because people will come out in droves to see 3D movies. Even though 3D is pretty trendy, I don’t like it; in fact, I dare say I’m already tired of the one trick pony that 3D animation really is…
